Thank you @bookclubbish #parkrowbooks (partner) for my gifted copy of ‘The Last Story of Mina Lee’ by Nancy Jooyoun Kim & for inviting me on the #Bookstagram Tour! (book release date 9/1)

A profoundly moving & unconventional mother-daughter saga, ‘The Last Story of Mina Lee illustrates the devastating realities of being an immigrant in America.

Margot Lee’s mother, Mina, isn’t returning her calls. It’s a mystery to twenty-six-year-old Margot, until she visits her childhood apartment in Koreatown, LA, & finds that her mother has suspiciously died. The discovery sends Margot digging through the past, unraveling the tenuous invisible strings that held together her single mother’s life as a Korean War orphan & an undocumented immigrant, only to realize how little she truly knew about her mother.

Interwoven with Margot’s present-day search is Mina’s story of her first year in Los Angeles as she navigates the promises & perils of the American myth of reinvention. While she’s barely earning a living by stocking shelves at a Korean grocery store, the last thing Mina ever expects is to fall in love. But that love story sets in motion a series of events that have consequences for years to come, leading up to the truth of what happened the night of her death.

Told through the intimate lens of a mother & daughter who have struggled all their lives to understand each other, ‘The Last Story of Mina Lee’ is a powerful & exquisitely woven debut novel that explores identity, family, secrets, & what it truly means to belong.

Told in alternating POV’s (the past & present, Mina & Margot), this is a story that will make a home in your heart for years to come. This book would make an excellent book club choice, too! There are just so many points of discussion in this gorgeous, debut novel.

The Last Story of Mina Lee‘ is a gripping, poignant, & often heartbreaking story about a complex mother-daughter relationship: an immigrant parent’s sacrifices & the mystery surrounding her life & her death, & the daughter who longs to reconnect with & understand her, & who now must do so by unraveling the enigma of her mother’s past. I loved learning more about Korean culture as well in this well-written, #ownvoice novel.

Click HERE to give my IG post some love! This pleases the publisher & author, too!

Happy Pub Day & Thank you @readforeverpub for my gifted copy of “The Boyfriend Project” by Farrah Rochon!

USA Today bestselling author Farrah Rochon launches a new series about three young women who become friends when the live Tweeting of a disastrous date leads them to discover they’ve all been duped by the same man.

Samiah Brooks never thought she would be “that” girl. But a live tweet of a horrific date just revealed the painful truth: she’s been catfished by a three-timing jerk of a boyfriend. Suddenly Samiah-along with his two other “girlfriends,” London & Taylor-have gone viral online. Now the three new besties are making a pact to spend the next six months investing in themselves. No men, no dating, & no worrying about their relationship status.

For once Samiah is putting herself first, & that includes finally developing the app she’s always dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy, honey-eyed Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? When it comes to love, there’s no such thing as a coincidence. But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true?

What a fantastic book! A celebration of strong women, women of color, & female friendship. “The Boyfriend Project” is an authentic, smart, relevant, refreshing rom-com with wonderfully written characters that readers will love! It’s a feel good novel that is female driven with some romance & a sprinkle of mystery, too.

This is the first book in a series that will include books focused on London & Taylor as well. This book & the follow-ups would make a fantastic TV series (like “The Bold Type”). Book review: “Always Last to Know” by Kristan Higgins

Thank you @berkleypub for my gifted copy of “Always Last to Know” by Kristan Higgins! (pub date 6/9).

Sometimes you have to break a family to fix it. From New York Times bestselling author Kristan Higgins, a new novel examining a family at the breaking point in all its messy, difficult, wonderful complexity.

The Frosts are a typical American family. Barb & John, married almost fifty years, are testy & bored with each other…who could blame them after all this time? At least they have their daughters– Barb’s favorite, the perfect, brilliant Juliet; & John’s darling, the free-spirited Sadie. The girls themselves couldn’t be more different, but at least they got along, more or less. It was fine. It was enough.

Until the day John had a stroke, and their house of cards came tumbling down. Now Sadie has to put her career as a teacher & struggling artist in New York on hold to come back & care for her beloved dad–& face the love of her life, whose heart she broke, & who broke hers. Now Juliet has to wonder if people will notice that despite her perfect career as a successful architect, her perfect marriage to a charming Brit, & her two perfect daughters, she’s spending an increasing amount of time in the closet having panic attacks. And now Barb and John will finally have to face what’s been going on in their marriage all along.

From the author of “Good Luck with That” & “Life & Other Inconveniences” comes a new novel of heartbreaking truths & hilarious honesty about what family really means.

I received this book back in January, so hopefully I can articulate how I felt about this book when I read it in February. It is told from 4 POV’s (Sadie, John, Barb & Juliet) & it sort of felt like 4 books combined because each person’s POV was so well voiced. I had to grab tissues a couple times! “Always Last to Know” is a very poignant, heartfelt, emotional & riveting tale of family dynamics, betrayal, resentment, loss, romance & forgiveness.
This would make a fantastic limited series on Hulu or Netflix. I really loved it just like I did with the other Kristan Higgins books I have read. This is a fantastic story that will truly captivate it’s readers. Look for this book this Tues, 6/9, at your local bookstores. Click HERE to find it using BookStoreLink.

This is what the ARC cover actually looked like, but I photoshopped the actual cover for the other photo. And my son wanted to say Hi to everyone in this pic! My little photo-bomber!

Book Review: “The Moonglow Sisters” by Lori Wilde

Click HERE to go give my Instagram post some love!

Thank you @williammorrowbooks for my gifted copy of “The Moonglow Sisters” by Lori Wilde! (pub date 3/3).

It’s Jill Shalvis meets Susan Mallery in this gorgeous novel by NYT bestselling author Lori Wilde about three sisters, one small town, a wedding, & the summer that changes everything.

Welcome to Moonglow Cove, Texas, a place where your neighbors know your name & the gentle waves of the Gulf of Mexico lap lazily against the sands. It’s a magical spot, especially in the summertime…

Once the town was the home of the Clark sisters—brought up by their grandmother at the Moonglow Inn. Nicknamed “The Moonglow Sisters”, as children they were inseparable.  Then, a wedding-day betrayal tore them apart & they scattered across the globe & away from each other. But the sisters have at last come home…

There’s Maddie: smart, sensible, & stubborn. Shelley, who ran off to find her bliss. And Gia, a free-spirit determined to keep the peace. It’s her impending wedding that keeps them together…but Gia has a secret, & when her sisters find out all heck is going to break loose!

The Moonglow Sisters continues Lori Wilde’s trademark storytelling to create an unforgettable novel of family, betrayal, love, & second chances.

**I won this book back in very early March, then the pandemic hit & many publishers ceased mailing books out, so I didn’t receive this book until May…but it was worth the wait. This book has the perfect recipe for a summer read: atmosphere, family drama (particularly sisters), betrayal, romance, & second chances. If you are a fan of Elin Hilderbrand, Susan Mallery, Jill Shalvis, or Robyn Carr, you will love this book!

I was able to completely engulf myself in this novel since I, too, live in a small, lakeside town where everyone knows everyone, & also everyone’s business (which is not always a good thing). I could totally picture people I knew in the roles of these women. “The Moonglow Sisters” is chock full of sisterly drama & petty bickering, but it is also breezy, uplifting, heartwarming (& breaking at times), lighthearted beach-read that would make a fantastic Hallmark movie. I hope this becomes a series, as I would love to read more about these sisters in the future.

Look for this one now wherever books are sold! You can also use BookStoreLink to search independent bookstores for this & any other book. Simply go to the website, type in the books title (or author) & then your city and/or state. And voila! Easy peasy! Shopping local is so much better than heading straight to the big “A” online (you know who I mean…).

Be sure to stop over to my Instagram page & show some love for my post there. It makes both the author & publisher very happy to see people showing appreciate & positive comments on their works of art.

Lori Wilde is an award-winning, New York Times, USA Today and Publishers’ Weekly bestselling author of 88 works of romantic fiction. Her books have been translated into 26 languages, with more than four million copies of her books sold worldwide. Thank you @kensingtonbooks @sharinawrites & @tlcbooktours for my gifted copy of “(Im)Perfectly Happy” by Sharina Harris!

When four college friends formed the Brown Sugarettes Mastermind Group, they had very different goals—but matched each other in ambition. Yet ten years later they can’t help wondering what happened to the hopeful, confident, driven women they used to be—& how to getthem back…

Radio personality Raina, known as “the black Delilah,” hates the wholesome persona that’s made her a success. Doling out syrupy versions of her grandma’s wisdom feels worlds away from the sarcastic, tell-it-like-it-is woman Raina really is.

Kara Jones was sure she’d be a master sommelier by thirty. Life & loss interfered with that plan. Now she has one more chance—but it’s taking a toll on her self-esteem & her marriage.

Nikki Grayson hardly recognizes the stay-at-home mom she’s become. When her band signed a record deal, she swapped the limelight for a minivan & a sensible ’do. Now she’s wishing she had followed her heart. Instead, she’s drowning her regret in alcohol.

Public defender Sienna Njeri willingly put her city council aspirations aside to support her fiancé’s bid for office—& now she’s wondering if her loyalty is misplaced.

Longing for the support, advice, & tough love they once shared, all four resolve to start meeting up again. After all, their dreams may still be within reach. But are they worth the price they’ll pay to achieve them?

A wonderful book with well-developed, relatable narratives, “(Im)Perfectly Happy” has just the female cast of characters you will want in your life. It embraces female friendships, women supporting women, it’s endearing, inspiring, & fueled with the full spectrum of human emotion. It is told from all four women’s POV & is just the kind of book you’ll want to share with all your female friends.
