It’s Good Friday, and it’s a “good Friday” because it’s another chance for you to win a couple of NEW books!

©️MomLovesReading

🐰Today is Good Friday & Passover begins, it’s my husband’s birthday, our kids have a 3-day wkend & Sunday is Easter💒! Busy busy! And since I love paying it forward w/ books, since I’m blessed w/ many, I’m hosting my third giveaway of the week on Instagram.

📖From NYT bestselling author Lucy Foley comes the new locked room mystery, ’The Paris Apartment’, set in a Paris apt bldg in which every resident has something to hide…

📖Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke & alone, & she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash w/ him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, & surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apt, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

📖The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, & the more questions she has. Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, & not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.

📖The socialite—The nice guy–The alcoholic–The girl on the verge–The concierge…Everyone’s a neighbor. Everyone’s a suspect, & everyone knows something they’re not telling…🤐

📚I chose ‘The Paris Apartment’ as a BOTM a couple mos back, then I received a gift copy from @williammorrowbooks (Thank you, WM!). I’m going to be reading The Paris Apartment soon, & I’d love to send 1 winner a hardback copy of that book along with a paperback of ‘The Hunting Party.

Insomnia may keep some folks awake all night, but ‘Insomnia’ the book is a great way to pass the time while you’re waiting for the ever elusive REM sleep…

@mom_loves_reading on Instagram

😵‍💫Insomnia may keep some folks awake at night, but what better way to pass the time than by reading today’s featured new release!

Happy Pub Day to Sarah Pinborough & her latest release, ‘Insomnia’, a twisty, imaginative, brilliantly addictive, thriller that will keep you up all night—in a good way—flying through the pages of this gripping, suspenseful new release.

“If you loved Behind Her Eyes, prepare to be totally and utterly blown away by Insomnia. Sarah Pinborough is a twisted genius.” — Lisa Jewell

IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT, MADNESS LIES . . .

Emma can’t sleep.

CHECK THE WINDOWS.

It’s been like this since her big 4-0 started getting closer.

LOCK THE DOORS.

Her mother stopped sleeping just before her own fortieth birthday.
She went mad and did the unthinkable because of it.

LOOK IN ON THE CHILDREN.

Is that what’s happening to Emma?

WHY CAN’T SHE SLEEP?

Readers either loved it or they didn’t, but when it came to Pinborough’s debut thriller, ‘Behind Her Eyes’, released in 2017, I LOVED it! I gasped outloud when I read those final few pages, then went back & reread them again. It totally blew me away! The premise was fresh, very unique, & so many levels of crazy, I thought about it long after I read it.

The Netflix adaptation was pretty good as well, but not as fab as the book IMHO. I feel like if you hadn’t read the book previously, before watching the limited series, you’d be a little confused (my husband totally was when he watched it with me, but I clued him in on the basics, but had to hold back on giving away that cray-cray ending!).

They did leave a few things out & changed a couple scenes here & there. ‘Behind Her Eyes’ is definitely a book I recommend often to thriller readers who haven’t read a bajillion of them & can guess every outcome by the end of the first chapter like I often can these days. (But I couldn’t back then, so this book rocked my world! 🤯📖🙌🏻)

As you can see from my Instagram photo at the top of this post, I have all of Sarah Pinborough’s adult novels & ‘13 Minutes’, which is one of her young adult novels. I think ‘Behind Her Eyes’ is still my favorite thriller by the New York Times Bestselling author, but I’d say ‘Insomnia’ is definitely the new contender for 2nd favorite.

📖In this twisty, mind-bending thriller, Emma Averell worries that her crippling insomnia is a sign that she’s slowly going insane—like the mother she’s worked so hard to leave in her past.

Emma Averell loves her life—her high-powered legal career, her two beautiful children, and her wonderful stay-at-home husband—but it wasn’t always so perfect. When she was just five years old, Emma and her older sister went into foster care because of a horrific incident with their mother. Her sister can remember a time when their mother was loving and “normal,” but Emma can only remember her as one thing—a monster. And that monster emerged right around their mother’s fortieth birthday, the same age Emma is approaching now.

Emma desperately wants to keep her successful life separate from her past, so she has always hidden her childhood trauma. But then she’s unable to sleep, and now losing time during the day, also one of the first symptoms her mother showed. Is the madness in her blood, just as her mother predicted? Could she end up hurting her family in her foggy, frenetic state? Or is she truly beginning to lose her mind?

Insomnia’ & Sarah Pinborough’s other novels, are available now wherever books are sold.

Are you a fan of modern retellings or re-imagined classics? There’s a new one coming out soon and I have a copy to GIVEAWAY!

*GIVEAWAY time!*

Are you a fan of modernized or re-imagined classic novels such as Little Women, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, or Pride & Prejudice? I am, as long as they are entertaining & done well.

Today’s upcoming release is a modernized Anne of Green Gables, the beloved classic written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, first published in 1908 & adapted into several movies, series, & now a romantic, charming, hilarious novel set in NYC. Thank you @williammorrowbooks for my gift copies of ‘Anne of Manhattan‘ by Brina Starler! (pub 6/1)

After an idyllic girlhood in Avonlea, Long Island, Anne has packed up her trunk, said goodbye to her foster parents, Marilla & Matthew, & moved to the isle of Manhattan for grad school. Together w/ her best friend, Diana Barry, she’s ready to take on the world & find her voice as a writer. When her long-time archrival Gilbert Blythe shows up at Redmond College for their final year, Anne gets the shock of her life. Gil has been in CA for the last 5 yrs—since he kissed her during a beach bonfire, & she ghosted him. Now the handsome brunette is flashing his dimples at her like he hasn’t a care in the world & she isn’t buying it.

Paired w/ the same professor for their thesis, the two former competitors come to a grudging peace that turns into something so much deeper…& sexier than either intended. But when Gil seemingly betrays her to get ahead, Anne realizes she was right all along—she should never have trusted Gilbert Blythe.

While Gil must prove to Anne that they’re meant to be together, she must come to terms w/ her old fears if she wants a happily-ever-after w/ the boy she’s always (secretly) loved.

I adored this heartwarming, sweet, nostalgia-inducing story! It made me want to go back & read the whole Anne of Green Gables series, & I may just do that now. It’s Shelfie (and snowy) Sunday!

Hey there! I have been so bad about getting blog posts done since pretty much the beginning of December. As a mother of autistic kids that keep me on my toes non-stop every waking minute they are home, & the fact that they are only in school 4 days a week for 6 hrs each day, this exhausted mom is really having a hard time getting all 9,000 things done on my daily to do list each day.

One thing I have been enjoying this past week are all of the cardinals, bluejays, woodpeckers, juncos, chickadees, & other pretty birds that stick around for our chilly, Northern Ohio winters. Our yard has been full of them, so we have been feeding them seed & nuts daily. We do have two squirrels that are enjoying our feeding generosity, one in particular that I have named Farley (after the late Chris Farley) due to his size (from eating so much of the bird seed & peanuts) & also because he is so funny & entertaining to watch. I named the smaller gray squirrel that keeps trying to get in on the food action Spade (after David Spade.)

It may be a snowy Sunday here in Ohio, but books, tea & coffee will keep me warm today!

Book Review: ‘The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett’ by Annie Lyons (pub 9/8/20)

Thank you @williammorrowbooks for my gift copy of ‘The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett‘ by Annie Lyons! (pub 9/8)

This is a moving & joyous novel about an elderly woman ready to embrace death & the little girl who reminds her what it means to live. And as it goes, it’s never too late to start living…

Eudora Honeysett is done w/ this noisy, moronic world—all of it. She has witnessed the indignities & suffering of old age & has lived a full life. At 85, she isn’t going to leave things to chance. Her end will be on her terms. With one call to a clinic in Switzerland, a plan is set in motion.

Then she meets 10-yr-old Rose Trewidney, a whirling, pint-sized rainbow of color & sparkling cheer. All Eudora wants is to be left alone to set her affairs in order. Instead, she finds herself embarking on a series of adventures w/ the irrepressible Rose & their affable neighbor, the recently widowed Stanley—afternoon tea, shopping sprees, trips to the beach, birthday celebrations, pizza parties.

While the trio of unlikely BFFs grow closer & anxiously await the arrival of Rose’s new baby sister, Eudora is reminded of her own childhood—of losing her father during World War II & the devastating impact it had on her entire family. In reflecting on her past, Eudora realizes she must come to terms w/ what lies ahead. But now that her joy for life has been rekindled, how can she possibly say goodbye?

You nailed it on the head if you said to yourself, “This reminds me a bit of ‘Me Before You’ & ‘A Man Called Ove'” & that’s a good thing, because both of those books are on my all-time favorite books list, & I said the same thing as I read this. ‘The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett‘ is in one word: Brilliant!

(This is the UK version of the book!)

A positively beautiful story that I didn’t want to end & I absolutely adored Rose! Rose, Eudora & other characters were so richly drawn & well-written, I felt like I truly got to know them, felt there sorrows & their joys as well. ‘The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett‘ is heart-wrenching at times & will certainly give you all the feels, but it is also sweet, heartwarming, captivating & memorable. This book was a nice change in pace from the plethora of thrillers I have inhaled lately. Look for this book at your nearest indie book store & add it to your TBR lists today!
