🎉GIVEAWAY time & I’m calling this one the ‘7-7-7’ giveaway featuring ‘The Seven Day Switch‘ by Kelly Harms! (pub 7/1/21)

❓Q: If you could switch places w/ your neighbor for 7 days by having a glass of magic sangria, would you?
My answer is NO. I’ve never had sangria before [sounds too sugary for me], but I do find a glass of cabernet or chardonnay to be quite “magical” at erasing my stress some evenings.😉🍷

📖Today is 7-7 & I’m holding the giveaway for 7 days! And a big Thank you to @tlcbooktours @amazonpublishing for my gift copy of ‘The Seven Day Switch‘ & for sponsoring this giveaway! (partner) After you’re done reading this blog post, be sure to check out my Instagram post as well & show the author (& me!) your support by giving it a LIKE & maybe even a SHARE. (Please & Thank you!)

What a difference a week makes in this heartfelt, laugh-out-loud novel about two moms as opposite as a Happy Meal & a quinoa bowl, from the Washington Post bestselling author of ‘The Overdue Life of Amy Byler’.

Celeste Mason is the Pinterest stay-at-home supermom of other mothers’ nightmares. Despite her all-organic, SunButter-loving, free-range kids, her immaculate home, & her volunteering awards, she still has time to relax w/ a nice glass of pinot at the end of the day. The only thing that ruins it all is her workaholic, career-obsessed neighbor, who makes no secret of what she thinks of Celeste’s life choices every chance she gets.

Wendy Charles is a celebrated productivity consultant, columnist, & speaker. On a minute-by-minute schedule, she makes the working-mom hustle look easy. She even spends at least one waking hour a day w/ her kids. She’s not apologizing for a thing. Especially to Celeste, who plays her superior parenting against Wendy whenever she can.

Who do Celeste & Wendy think they are? They’re about to find out thanks to one freaky week. After a neighborhood potluck & too much sangria, they wake up—um, what?—in each other’s bodies. Everything Celeste & Wendy thought they knew about the “other kind of mom” is flipped upside down—along w/ their messy, complicated, maybe not so different lives.

********************

👭I loved this super fun, relatable, utterly delightful, ‘Freaky Friday’ for Mom’s story & hope to see it on the big (or small) screen someday! I can see a bit of both Celeste & Wendy in my own personality, too. This is one of those books that you just don’t want to end since you become so invested in the lives of both women. It’s heartwarming, spellbinding, thought-provoking, & a bit emotional at times, & I loved every second of the book!

📖It’s available for purchase now & there are links below for your convenience & I also have (2) copies up for grabs via the giveaway on my Instagram account. And, as an added bonus, I’m allowing entries here on my blog, too! Just make sure you are subscribed to momlovesreading.com & LIKE & comment on this post to enter. Winter is coming! ‘A Winter Night’ on a summer day!

As they say in ‘Game of Thrones’ many times, “Winter is coming.” Only in this case, there’s no ice zombies to contend with, just some complex, well-written characters that are much easier to relate to than anyone in the 7 kingdoms of Westeros!

Ok, now that I’ve nerded out on George R.R. Martin references, it’s time for ‘A Winter Night‘ on an almost summer day!

Thank you to @unsolicitedpress & @tlcbooktours for my gift copy of Anne Leigh Parrish’s latest release, ‘A Winter Night’, released back in March!

I’m so glad I joined this book tour! What a refreshing & palette cleansing read for someone that gets way too wrapped up in the dark world of thrillers quite often! (…which I’m not mad about, but I totally dig a change of bookish scenery from time to time…ya know, so I can sleep & not have all the nightmares about the books I’ve read.)

The main character of Angie Dugan is written in a way that is easily relatable, with the right amount of layers & depth, which makes ‘A Winter Night’ even more enjoyable to read.
‘A Winter Night’ is a story of personal growth, learning to love & trust again, dealing w/ loved ones addictions, & so much more. The Dugan family first appeared in Parrish’s previous novel, ‘Our Love Could Light the World‘ & in this new release, Angie Dugan gets center stage. ‘A Winter Night’ is poignant, character driven, engaging, wise & witty. I look forward to reading more from Anne Leigh Parrish in the future & plan to check out some of her backlist soon!

About ‘A Winters Night‘:
34-year-old Angie Dugan struggles with many things–anxiety, her career as a social worker in a retirement home, & her difficult family. Her biggest struggle, though, is finding love. When she meets Matt, she’s swept away by his attention.
As issues from his past come up she wonders if she can trust him. Should she break it off, or give him another chance? In the end, all she can do is listen to her heart, & evaluate what she wants most.
(**Be sure to read the author bio below to read more about the Dugan’s origin story.)

Anne Leigh Parrish sat down one day at an ancient typewriter & banged out a short story. Nine yrs & many stories later, ‘A Painful Shade of Blue,’ found a home in The Virginia Quarterly Review. The story featured the real-life trauma of her parents’ divorce when she was only 10 yrs old. While other stories returned to that time & place, most ventured further afield, focusing on women in impossible situations, & blending stark reality w/ magical realism. In 2014 her first novel, ‘What Is Found, What Is Lost’, featuring four generations of women & their experience w/ religious faith convinced her that she also loved long-form writing. ‘Women Within’, her 2nd novel, is another multi-generational story about three women whose lives intersect at the Lindell Retirement home. In both stories & subsequent novels, the Dugan family of Dunston, New York, a fictional town representing Ithaca, where Anne grew up, takes center stage. They’re a tough, hard-worn bunch full of love, pain, & fierce devotion to each other – usually. Her linked story collection, ‘Our Love Could Light The World’, & her novels ‘The Amendment’ & ‘Maggie’s Ruse’ follow them over years & many ups & downs. Her latest novel, ‘A Winter Night’, released in March 2021 centers on the eldest daughter, Angie Dugan, & her struggle to find love & self-acceptance. Anne lived in Seattle for 35 yrs until Amazon made driving anywhere a nightmare, then moved w/ her husband & black pug to a forest outside of Olympia, Washington where she continues to write stories, novels, the occasional essay, & most recently, poetry.

Do you like sci-fi, A.I., movies like ‘I, Robot’? An intriguing mystery with heart and a bit humor?

If you answered YES, or even sometimes, then let me introduce you to ‘The Halo Conspiracy‘ by Michael Murphy, author of a half-dozen other books including a historical mystery series set in the 1930’s.

Thank you TLC Book Tours & Michael Murphy for my gift copy of ‘The Halo Conspiracy‘, book one of Murphy’s new Lucas Nash series & released on 4/15/21!

In mid-twenty-first century, solving murders hasn’t become any easier. Cutting edge science has created more opportunities for crime than offered solutions.

A ruthless technology company threatens to reveal Project Halo, a scientific breakthrough that will change humanity forever. Layers of secrecy conceal cutting-edge robotics, artificial intelligence and even rumors of synthetic humans. Before scientists can correct flaws that threaten the program, someone or something murders the brains behind the project.

Michael Murphy’s witty fast-paced sci-fi mystery introduces Lucas Nash, a gritty, by the book homicide detective thrust into a world he always avoids, high tech. He sifts through a maze of suspects; Rachel, a spirited intern, a brute of a security chief, a treacherous woman, the murdered man’s partner, and two ambitious Army officers, one found dead in the arms of a married schoolteacher, and a Colonel who can’t be found.

A media starved religious leader warns the world against the evils of technology with his beautiful assistant, Lucas’s one-time flame. Before uncovering the killer’s identity, an unlikely romance threatens to derail the investigation and end Lucas’s career. With pressure mounting from his superiors and the government, Lucas must set aside his feelings and solve the murder before technology makes him and humanity the next victims.

The Halo Conspiracy‘ is a well-written, captivating, atmospheric, & quick-paced book that would make a fantastic adaptation on Netflix or HBO Max. With just the right amount of wit, romance, mystery, intrigue (& artificial intelligence), & set in the not too distant future, this 1st book in Murphy’s ‘Lucas Nash’ series has the potential to become a series all the sci-fi/mystery readers will talking about often & recommending to book clubs everywhere.

Blog Tour Time! Introducing ‘A Frenzy of Sparks’ by Kristin Fields (pub 11/3/20)

From the author of ‘A Lily in the Light‘ comes a poignant story of innocence lost & what it means to grow up too fast…

It’s 1965, & thirteen-year-old Gia, along with her older brother & cousins, are desperate to escape their sleepy, tree-lined neighborhood where nothing ever happens. The only thing Gia would miss is the surrounding marsh, where she feels at home among sea birds & salt water.

But when one of Gia’s cousins brings drugs into their neighborhood, it sets off a chain of events that quickly turn dangerous. Everyone will be caught in the ripples, & some may be swept away entirely. Gia is determined to keep herself & her family afloat while the world is turned upside down around her. Can she find a way to hold on to the life she was so eager to leave behind, or will she have to watch it all disappear beneath the marsh forever?

At turns heart-wrenching & hopeful, ‘A Frenzy of Sparks‘ explores a world where survival is the attempt to move forward while leaving pieces of your heart behind.

You guys, this book is excellent! Gia gave me Kya from ‘Where the Crawdads Sing‘ vibes w/ her strong-willed innocence, her love of marshes & her having to grow up too quickly because of bad people & bad things happening.
A Frenzy of Sparks‘ is a coming of age story about being a young teenager in a time of prevalent drug use, being part of a tight-knit family in a small town, & the desire to not only escape this broken town & keep her family intact & safe, but also to fix it & the residents along the way.

This is not a fluffy read by any means, & does have some dark, gritty moments, but it is so atmospheric, powerful, thoughtful & deeply personal. You will be completely engrossed in this story & it will stick w/ you long after you read it. I highly recommend ‘A Frenzy of Sparks‘ & I really hope to see a sequel for this someday. It is such a beautiful, well-written fiction novel, & as a small-town resident myself, I felt so drawn in to the story & it’s compelling cast of characters.

A Frenzy of Sparks‘ is available now, so add it to your TBR, Christmas or wish lists & buy it from an independent bookstore. Please don’t forget to support small businesses this holiday season & always!

Book Tour and Review of ‘Autumn Skies’ by Denise Hunter

Click HERE to give my IG post some LIKE love!

Welcome to the first stop on the IG/blog book tour for ‘Autumn Skies‘ by Denise Hunter! Thank you @tlcbooktours @thomasnelson & @tnzfiction for my gift copy this amazing book that publishes on 10/20!

Facing the past is easier if you don’t have to face it alone…

The Bluebell Inn is turning a profit, & it’s time for the Bennett siblings to sell it & move on. Only Grace has plans to stay in the small lake town of Bluebell, North Carolina, where she hopes her growing outfitters business will save her from the loneliness of her siblings’ departure & the persistent sense of unworthiness in her life.

A gunshot wound resurrects the past for Secret Service agent Wyatt Jennings, & a mandatory leave of absence lands him in Bluebell. There he must come to grips w/ the tragedy that altered his life 14 years ago. When Wyatt books a room at the Bluebell Inn, sparks fly between him & Grace. She volunteers to be his mountain guide, & he soon opens up to her, drawn to her strength & sense of humor. But both are reticent to talk about the survivor’s guilt they each carry, & when their pasts finally collide, their budding romance might not survive the truth.

From the bestselling author of ‘The Convenient Groom‘ & ‘A December Bride’ (now beloved Hallmark Original movies) comes the third & final novel in the Bluebell Inn series. Book 1 is ‘Lake Season‘ & came out in Nov ’19 & book 2 is ‘Carolina Breeze‘ which published only 5 mos ago in May. All of the books can be read as stand-alones, but I definitely want to read those first 2 books now after thoroughly enjoying ‘Autumn Skies‘.

Lake Season‘: When their parents die in a tragic accident, Molly Bennett and her siblings pull together to fulfill their parents’ dream: turning their historic home back into an inn.
Adam Bradford (a.k.a. bestselling author Nathanial Grey) is a reclusive author with a bad case of writer’s block. Desperate for inspiration as his deadline approaches, he travels to a North Carolina lake town, the setting of his next novel. There he immediately meets his muse, a young innkeeper who fancies herself in love with his alter ego.
When Molly finds an old letter in the walls of her inn she embarks on a mission with Adam to find the star-crossed lovers and bring them the closure they deserve. But the guest she invites along has secrets of his own. Past and present collide as truths are revealed, and Molly and Adam will have to decide if love is worth trusting.

A jilted bride. A struggling innkeeper. And a romantic mountain getaway that changes everything. Rising Hollywood star Mia Emerson is looking for a safe place to land in the wake of a public breakup & scandal, & she finds it in the lake town of Bluebell, North Carolina—the location of her canceled honeymoon. She wants nothing more than to hide & wait for the tabloids to die down.
Soon after her arrival at the Bluebell Inn, Mia meets Levi Bennett, who runs the inn along w/ his two younger sisters. Drawn to one another from the start, Mia trusts Levi to keep her location from the press, & Levi confides in Mia about the financial state of the inn—a secret he’s been keeping from his sisters.
When Mia & Levi discover an old journal that hints at a rare diamond necklace hidden in the inn, they set off on a treasure hunt to find the long-lost heirloom. What they don’t expect to surface are feelings they thought were safely locked away. Mia & Levi must decide if falling in love again is too big a risk—or if it will uncover a treasure of its own instead.
This Bluebell Inn romance takes us to a quiet North Carolina retreat that holds more secrets than it shares.

I live in a little, lakeside town that has several B&B’s, so this book was very easy to visualize & get completely consumed in. Grace is the youngest of the Bennett siblings, w/ the stories about her sister, Molly & their brother, Levi, covered in books 1 & 2. ‘Autumn Skies‘ is an utterly heartwarming, enchanting & beautiful story that will completely sweep you away w/ it’s lakeside atmosphere.

The story has a very nice balance of clean romance, mystery, past tragedy, drama, & witty banter while also touching on some serious issues such as the aforementioned survivors guilt & also debilitating panic attacks. I loved Grace & Wyatt’s story & the building of their relationship & the way the characters in the book were brought to life w/ Hunter’s talented writing.

There’s a reason Denise Hunter’s books have such great ratings & reviews, & this will certainly not be my last book by her. ‘Autumn Skies‘ is a breath-taking, engaging, & well-written story that I highly recommend!
