🎶These are a few of my favorite things🎶 (….err, I mean, THRILLERS!📚)

🎶Haunted old schools & murder suspicions,
Troubling marriages, psycho weather conditions,
Creepy kids, summer camp & wedding guest killers,
These are a few of my favorite thrillers!🎶
(Yes, that was meant to be sung in Julie Andrews voice to the tune of ‘My Favorite Things’ from ‘The Sound of Music’; see video below, watch it & let this song be stuck in your head all day now like it has been in mine.😉)

Q: Are you a thriller/mystery/suspense book fan? What is one that you always recommend to other fans of the genre? (please leave a comment with your recommendations!)

📚Fall is the perfect time of year to tackle your thriller tbr stacks, especially Halloween time! I love curling up in my fave chair in the evening with a glass of wine, cup of tea or cocoa, a nice warm blanket, & an unputdownable thriller book that keeps me so engaged I have to force myself to go to bed instead of reading into to wee hours! The books in my arms are examples of ones that met that criteria for me! I know some of you have a different opinion on a couple of these, but that’s what’s so great about books…what one may loathe, another may love! (For some reason there are people that hated ‘No Exit‘ while frankly, I LOVED it! Que sera, sera…🤷🏼)

📚You know where you can get some of the best thriller books at an even more thrilling discount? The Book-of-the-Month Club! As a long time member & fan of BOTM, I get so excited to see what books they have selected for us each month because many of their picks are some of my all-time favorites! They also have some fan fave, older books available as add-on’s such as ‘The Secret History’, ‘Gone Girl’, all of Riley Sager’s books & so much more!

📚If you have been on the fence about joining BOTM, I encourage you to do it now! The November books are coming later this week & many of the books each month are Early Releases, meaning you can get books a month or more before the gen public! You get a special intro price for your first BOTM & then you’ll be on your way to being a BOTM BFF like me!

📚Once you’ve received 12 BOTM monthly boxes, you are officially a BFF. With that new title comes great things: a FREE BOTM tote bag, a FREE BOTM add-on during your birthday month & a FREE book at the end of the year from the Book of the Year finalists. It’s pretty freakin’ awesome! Full-size hardback books for nearly HALF of what you’d pay elsewhere & well-curated selections of various genres. A little something for everyone! You can add-on other books for even LESS (up to 3 books total per month, per membership…And YES, some people sign up for more than one account so they can get more than 3 books per month!) & you can skip any month you like.

Five-Star Fiction Friday Book Review: ‘Keep Your Friends Close’ by Janelle Harris

Time for a Five-Star Fiction Friday rec! Thank you @amazonpublishing #lakeunionpublishing for my gift copy of ‘Keep Your Friends Close‘ by Janelle Harris! (pub 10/6)

QOTD: Do you agree with the old saying, “Keep your friends close & your enemies closer.” I agree to a certain point I guess, because if I don’t like someone, I have a really hard time w/ keeping a poker face when that person is around & tend to just ignore them completely or kill them w/ kindness, so to speak. But I’m not sure sure how close I would want to be w/ any enemy of mine.

Darcy Hogan’s perfect life is all over social media. She’s beautiful, she’s successful, & she & her childhood sweetheart are about to become parents for the first time. But behind all the followers & the superficial likes lurks a darker truth…

In reality, Darcy feels isolated & afraid. Her difficult pregnancy has her confined to the house, she’s being harassed online, & out-of-control debt threatens to ruin everything she’s worked so hard for.
When her husband is summoned away on business, Darcy’s cabin fever soon spirals into fear. Who is making mysterious phone calls & knocking on her door? Is it an old friend trying to reach out—or a stranger determined to push in?

As her due date creeps closer, Darcy feels ever more certain that someone is out to get her. She’s desperate to get away—but is she running from the right person?

‘Keep Your Enemies Close’ is a dual-narrated, psychological suspense/thriller by the author of ‘Under Lying‘, ‘See Me Not‘ & ‘No Kiss Goodbye‘…3 books I will surely be checking out because I loved this one so much! Darcy’s whole story is pretty fascinating & held my interest throughout the entire book. The book is fast-paced, expertly plotted, easy to follow timelines/narration, gripping & twisty. I would highly recommend this book to any suspense/mystery/thriller lover, & even if you manage to figure stuff out, it is still an entertaining & quite enjoyable read!

Look for ‘Keep Your Enemies Close‘ this Tues, 10/6, at your local indie bookstore or online wherever books are sold.

Now for the book: ‘The Best of Friends‘ by Lucinda Berry

An unthinkable tragedy forever changes a group of teens & turns family against family in this edge-of-your-seat thriller that begs to be read in one sitting.
.
Best friends Lindsey, Kendra, & Dani endure every parent’s nightmare when a tragic accident befalls their teenage boys, leaving one dead, another in a coma, & a third too traumatized to speak. Reeling from the worst night of their lives, the 3 mothers plunge into a desperate investigation of the bizarre incident. How could something so horrible happen in their wealthy Southern California suburb?
.
They soon discover that the accident was just the beginning, & troubling discoveries lead to chilling questions: Do they really know their children? Do they even know each other? As more secrets surface, a fog of doubt & suspicion threatens to poison their families, their friendships, & the whole community. With the illusion of happiness and safety long gone, these women must now confront the hazards of heartbreak, the consequences of jealousy, & the dangers of living double lives.
.
The Best of Friends‘ relentlessly grabs you from the first pages & doesn’t let go! As a parent of 5, 2 of which are currently teenage boys, this book resonated w/ me & how as a mother, I would go to the end of the world, through hell & back, to protect my child, & if something bad happened to them, I would never give up on finding the truth behind the incident. This book is a heart-wrenching, compelling, thought-provoking domestic suspense, & I loved it! I can’t wait to check out other books by Berry soon!

Thank you @amazonpublishing #lakeunionpublishing for my gifted copy of ‘The Last to Know’ by Jo Furniss! (pub day 8/11)

QOTD: Do you like to read books about creepy, old homes w/ an ominous past? I DO!

A family’s past pursues them like a shadow in this riveting & emotional novel of psychological suspense by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of ‘All the Little Children’.

American journalist Rose Kynaston has just relocated to the childhood home of her husband, Dylan, in the English village of his youth. There’s a lot for Rose to get used to in Hurtwood. Like the family’s crumbling mansion, inhabited by Dylan’s reclusive mother, & the treacherous hill it sits upon, a place of both sinister folklore & present dangers.

Then there are the unwelcoming villagers, who only whisper the name Kynaston—like some dreadful secret, a curse. Everyone knows what happened at Hurtwood House 20 yrs ago. Everyone except Rose. And now that Dylan is back, so are rumors about his past. When an archaeological dig unearths human remains on the hill, local police sergeant Ellie Trevelyan vows to solve a cold case that has cast a chill over Hurtwood for decades.

As Ellie works to separate rumor from fact, Rose must fight to clear the name of the man she loves. But how can Rose keep her family safe if she is the last to know the truth?

This was my first book by Jo Furniss & it will not be my last! ‘The Last to Know‘ is such a hauntingly atmospheric & well-written psychological suspense/thriller w/ some gothic mystery appeal. I love reading about creepy houses, add in a sinister, family backstory, some eerie elements & people, sprinkles of humor & a big dose of secrets & lies, & you get a gem like this!

The Last to Know‘ is flawlessly plotted, captivates from the get-go, holds your attention throughout, & keeps you guessing until the very end. This book did not disappoint & I look forward to reading more from Furniss in the near future! ‘The Last to Know’ is available now.
