Happy Independent Bookstore Day! (well, sort of…) [TAKE 2]

(****Ok I will start off by saying you probably already got an email with this post, but for some reason it was not showing up on my blog & is still in my “draft post” file. So I am hitting the “publish button one more time. I put a lot of work into the post & just want it to actually show up on my blog & get out of the wrong file. Thanks for understanding….)

Happy Independent Bookstore Day!! Especially to my fave, Gathering Volumes Bookstore in Perrysburg, OH! And thank you @readforeverpub & @hachetteaudio for my free copies of ‘The Happy Ever After Playlist‘ by Abby Jimenez!

While the “official” Indie Bookstore Day is now postponed until Aug 29th, we are still having an online celebration today to recognize, thank & support our local & independent bookstores! During these difficult times I can tell you that reading (whether physical books or audiobooks) has really helped me get through some tough days.

Me reading The Eye of Zeus by Alane Adams with my youngest

I listen to audiobooks during the day to help with the stress & anxiety of being isolated for weeks with my overly loud & bored kids, & I have also incorporated daily outloud reading time with them as part of our new homeschooling routine, which I will continue to do even when our official school year ends. Then in the evening when I can sit quietly, I read my physical books.

Right now I am listening to ‘The Happy Ever After Playlist‘ with of my Libro.fm app. Libro.fm is an audiobook app that supports Indie Bookstores with their sales. By choosing Libro.fm over other audiobook companies, you support a local bookstore of your choice.

Most people think you can only buy physical books from indie bookstores, but that’s not true. Many bookstores have partnered with Libro.fm to support audiobook sales as well. No more waiting for your library holds to come in. Get the audiobook you want as soon as it is released via your Librofm app or use BookStoreLink.com to find the books you want at an independent bookstore. Many have curbside pick-up or will ship the books to you.

My independent bookstore of choice is Gathering Volumes Bookstore in Perrysburg, Ohio. They also have a special going on this weeekend which includes a FREE Independent Bookstore Day totebag! Click HERE to go to their Instagram post that tells you the details. I think I will be making a purchase from them this weekend for sure! They also ship books, sell e-books & audiobooks, & have some really fun, nicely curated book subscriptions for all ages. They also have a used book section with some fantastic deals!

Book Review: “Pretty Things” by Janelle Brown and my new book mail!

Click HERE to give the Instagram post some love

Thank you @randomhouse for my gifted copy of ‘Pretty Things‘ by Janelle Brown, published on 4/21!

Two wildly different women – one a grifter, the other an heiress – are brought together by the scam of a lifetime in a page-turner from the NYT bestselling author of ‘Watch Me Disappear’.

Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in L.A. alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best. Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.

Vanessa is a privileged young heiress who wanted to make her mark in the world. Instead she becomes an Instagram influencer—traveling the globe, receiving free clothes & products, & posing for pictures in exotic locales. But behind the covetable façade is a life marked by tragedy. After a broken engagement, Vanessa retreats to her family’s sprawling mountain estate, Stonehaven: a mansion of dark secrets not just from Vanessa’s past, but from that of a lost & troubled girl named Nina.

Nina’s, Vanessa’s, & Lachlan’s paths collide here, on the cold shores of Lake Tahoe, where their intertwined lives give way to a winter of aspiration & desire, duplicity & revenge. Two brilliant, damaged women try to survive the greatest game of deceit & destruction they will ever play.

Pretty Things” is a twisty, perfectly paced, well-written suspense thriller that keeps you wanting more. And we ARE going to get more…Nicole Kidman optioned the rights to adapt this into an Amazon series, produced by & starring her, of course. Nicely defined characters & seductively captivating, you will love this one! And it made me want to sing the T Swift song lyrics:

Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play;
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate….

Look for this book at your local bookstores today! Enjoy your weekend reading, folks! (and go enter my Murderino Monday giveaway! It ends on 4/26, & it’s for 2 true crime advance copy books! Click HERE to go to the giveaway post.

And now for my Instagram post about my new book mail (paid for kind, not the super awesome free kind from generous publishers…)

Zoom in on that cat’s nose…creepy AF! Click HERE to give my IG post some LOVE

Happy Friday! (…like it’s different from any other day right now though, am I right??)

I received an awesome deal in my email from Books-a-Million on Tues, that I could buy this book for $15, plus I had a Millionaires Club member coupon, so I saved even more! (I LOVE my BAM loyalty card!)

I purchased 2 copies of the new Stephen King book, “If It Bleeds”, for me & my son to buddy-read! And they arrived today!! Talk about fast! (FYI: Amazon is calling most books “non-essential” so even with Prime (expensive Prime!) books may take a month or longer to arrive, which is so not cool.)

I actually don’t have any indie stores nearby; my closest ones being about 45-60 mls away. However, I also purchased the audiobook version via my Libro.fm app & that sale supports an indie bookstore in my daughters town. So win win! (A big Librofm special is coming tomorrow so download the free app today! You’ll be glad you did!)

I do have one bookstore that I do my best to help keep afloat in our area, & that’s Books-a-Million. It’s in our ghost town of a mall (with my other fave store TJMaxx within throwing distance). The folks at my BAM recognize me when I come in (some call me the “instagram girl”☺️) & they ask what’s coming up that they should watch for & read & recommend to others. I love helping to support that store because they are the only bookstore within a 45-60 min drive…and they are my happy place!

What are you reading this weekend? Are you also buying the new King book? If you want to buy it on audio, use the Librofm app to support indie bookstores AND use my code MOMLOVESREADING to get a 3-for-1 deal! And again, don’t forget to enter my current giveaway (the Murderino Monday one) which ends on 4/26 on Instagram.

And as always…stay home, stay safe, stay sane. No go wash your hands.

Libro.fm is an audiobook company that supports independent bookstores with their audiobook sales. I love audiobooks & I love that Libro.fm supports the little guys (& not the billionaire…). If you already enjoy audiobooks or are wanting to give them a try, I strongly encourage you to do so now. You can use my referral link HERE & get a 3-for-1 audiobook deal when you start your membership. There are no long term commitments & you can cancel anytime.

I LOVE using my Libro.fm app & audiobooks really help get me through some long days. My son can’t get over how quickly he has been getting through his TBR list by incorporating audiobooks into his reading. He goes on a long run or walk & gets through several chapters of a book (he uses 1.8x speed, I use 1.25x usually.) My referral code is also MOMLOVESREADING if you want to use it that way.

Plenty of people are making the #audiobookswitch–choosing Libro.fm & their independent bookstore over the largest audiobook company out there (you know the name). Why? They were hoping you’d ask:
